Contact roll

The contact rolls lays onto the winding reel and thereby ensures a proper guiding of the web towards the reel. Additionally the trapping of air is avoided by the pressure between contact roll and reel (contact winding). Depending of the winding mode the contact roll can be driven or not driven.

If the contact roll is driven, it stays always in contact with the reel in order to transmit the driving torque to the reel. About the pressure of the contact roll the amount of air in between the layers of the reel and therefore the winding quality can be controlled. The pressure can be created either pneumatically, by motor power or hydraulically. A non driven contact roll can also be used for gap winding. Here the contact roll will be positioned with a defined and nearly fix distance to the increasing reel diameter. Positioning mainly is done motorized, as the distance between reel and contact roll is scanned usually by a photo cell.
