Score cut
At score cutting the web is slit for further processing by a circular knife, which is pressed against a hardened shaft..

For score cutting semi-rigid and soft films from 0.1 to more than 1 mm thickness are suitable. For slitting a circular knife grinded on both sides is pressed against a hardened shaft. By this pressure - usually pneumatically - the web is pressed towards the sides of the cutting point and thereby cut. The cutting edge of the knife is designed with a very small radius to minimize the wear of the knife. As there will be a very high pressure onto the hardened shaft when using several knives, this shaft should be motor-driven to keep it easy running and to avoid therefore a too high tension within the web.
