Scissors cut
At scissors cutting the web is slit for further processing by a circular knife, which is pressed against an also circular counter knife.

Suitable for scissors cutting are rigid and semi-rigid films and paper from approx. 0.1 mm thickness up to more than 1 mm thickness. For slitting a circular knife ground on one side is pressed against a circular counter knife also ground on one side. This counter knife is also called a lower knife as the other knife is also called an upper knife. By the pressure - which is usually a pneumatic actuated pressure - between both knives the web is cut according to the scissors cut principle. The lower knife should be motor-driven to avoid a too high tension within the web. Therefore various lower knives can be arranged on one common shaft which is motor-driven. Depending on the demand for an in-line production or a off-line production the upper and lower knives can be sideways adjusted either with running production or at zero-speed of the machine.
